(NewsNation) — A longtime housekeeper for disgraced attorney Alex Murdaugh is set to release a tell-all memoir about the crimes that occurred at the family’s South Carolina estate.
Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson’s book, “Within the House of Murdaugh: Amid a Unique Friendship — Blanca and Maggie” chronicles her 14 years working for the family. The book, co-authored by Mary Frances Weaver, promises to give readers a glimpse into the “secrets of the infamous Murdaugh family.”
Murdaugh was convicted in 2023 for the double murders of his wife, Maggie, and his 22-year-old son, Paul, who were found shot to death on the estate in 2021.
Murdaugh was also convicted on other crimes, including a pricey insurance scheme and myriad financial offenses. He’s been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison — on top of two life sentences for murder.
Murdaugh housekeeper on murder investigation, theories
Turrubiate-Simpson, a U.S. Navy veteran and former corrections officer, posits several theories about the murders in her book.
The start of it all, she said, was Paul’s 2019 boat crash that killed teen Mallory Beach. Her death brought multimillion-dollar lawsuits against the Murdaugh legal dynasty, piling on to secret financial crimes the patriarch had long been embroiled in.
Turrubiate-Simpson said the secrets Murdaugh carried overwhelmed him. He’d allegedly turned to drugs to cope and, eventually, came to believe killing his family members was his only option.
She said she knew Murdaugh had a hand in the pair’s death because she knew the family’s habits. When Turrubiate-Simpson came to clean the house hours after news of the killings broke, Maggie’s SUV was parked on the right of the driveway; she’d always parked to the left.
Other details didn’t add up, according to Turrubiate-Simpson’s book. Maggie’s pajamas and a pair of underwear were laid out on the laundry room floor — seemingly for her to wear that night to bed —but Simpson knew Maggie didn’t wear underwear to bed.
“I knew automatically that wasn’t her,” Turrubiate-Simpson told People magazine.
Inconsistencies with Murdaugh’s story — like a towel she remembered washing the day of the murders, pictured on police body camera footage in his vehicle — led her to create her own theories about the crimes.
Though he alone is serving time, Turrubiate-Simpson theorizes Murdaugh had an accomplice who helped him clean up, drive his wife’s SUV back to the house and stage the scene inside.
“In the end the Murdaugh name meant more,” Turrubiate-Simpson wrote. “Maggie and Paul were just collateral.”
Murdaugh housekeeper’s book honors Maggie, dog Bubba
The memoir also touches on Turrubiate-Simpson’s relationship with Maggie, whom she described as “thoughtful, generous — and a lot of fun.”
She said they grew close over the years she worked for the family.
“She was so full of life,” Turrubiate-Simpson told People. “She always looked out for me. I want to honor her legacy.”
Turrubiate-Simpson adopted Bubba, Maggie’s favorite Labrador retriever, and said they comforted each other in the wake of the murders.
