(KTLA) — Actor Owen Cooper just made history at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening.

The 15-year-old won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or TV Movie for his role in the Netflix series “Adolescence,” making him the youngest male actor to win the award.

“Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple years back, I didn’t expect to be in the United States, never mind here, but I think tonight proves that if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life,” he said as he accepted the award. “I was nothing about three years ago and I’m here now. Who cares if you get embarrassed? Anything can be possible.”

Cooper beat out Javier Bardem for ” Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story,” “Presumed Innocent” actors Bill Camp and Peter Sarsgaard, Rob Delaney for “Dying For Sex,” and fellow “Adolescence” actor Ashley Walters.

“Adolescence” is about a 13-year-old who is accused of murdering a classmate.
