(NewsNation) — Tejano star Selena Quintanilla’s father and former band manager, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., has died at age 86, his family announced Saturday, Dec. 13.
His son A.B. Quintanilla posted a photo of his dad to Instagram, with the caption, “It’s with a heavy heart to let you guys know that my Dad passed away today…” The song “Cien Años” played along with the photo.
Abraham Quintanilla, along with Selena’s siblings and former bandmates, was recently featured in Netflix’s documentary “Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy,” which premiered in November.
He began his musical career in 1956 as part of the band, “Los Dinos,” which inspired a later family band “Selena y Los Dinos.”
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Selena, who rose to fame in the 1980s and 90s.
Selena was murdered by her fan club manager at age 23 on March 31, 1995, shocking the world, which had grown to love the Mexican-American star who popularized Tejano music.
He and his family kept her legacy alive through the Selena Museum in Corpus Christi, Texas.
