(NewsNation) — Criminal defense attorney Mark Geragos believe Sean “Diddy” Combs’ four-year prison sentence was harsh.
Geragos, whose daughter Teny Geragos was part of the defense, joined “CUOMO” to discuss the sentence handed down by a federal judge to the fallen rap mogul on Friday.
Combs was sentenced to 50 months after being convicted on a pair of prostitution-related charges three months ago. His attorneys have said they will appeal.
“I thought 50 months, frankly, was way more than he should have gotten. I do not think this is one of the better days for the defense, both in the performance and and what was presented. I just I have a lot of issues with the whole thing,” Geragos told NewsNation.
Geragos acknowledged his daughter’s presence on the defense team, but that the team lacked an adequate strategy on the final day of the trial.
“My daughter is on the defense, and she didn’t do much today, but I don’t think this was a really well thought out presentation,” he said.
Combs has been in a New York City jail for the last 13 months and Geragos believes there is “a possibility” he serves no longer than another year behind bars.
“There is a possibility of that. I mean, if he makes smart moves… You can cut off a lot of time, depending on the programs you’re going to do,” he said.
