MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man is accused of choking his boss to death with zip ties before fleeing the country eight years ago, authorities said Monday.

Michel Patrick Desalles, 54, was extradited back to the United States Friday and indicted for murder for allegedly killing his boss in a Tribeca jewelry story on Feb. 14, 2017, prosecutors said.

Authorities found Omid Gholian, 51, dead with zip ties around his neck in the back of the store the day after the incident, according to court records. The boss also had a bruised eye and a gash on the head.

After the Valentine’s Day attack, DeSalles allegedly bought a plane ticket to his home country of Mauritius and flew out of JFK Airport the same night, prosecutors said.

“I hope the victim’s loved ones can take some measure of comfort that this defendant will finally face accountability in New York,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. “I thank our prosecutors for never wavering from the investigation and doggedly seeking the return of this defendant.”

The defendant was brought back to New York City on Friday and arraigned. He pled not guilty and is being held without bail.

His attorney could not be reached Monday
