TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman has been charged with attempted murder after she, in a pickup truck, chased a man fleeing on foot and ran him over.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday on the Morris Bridge Road exit of Interstate 75.

An affidavit from FHP says one witness watched the events unfold and detained the suspect himself before law enforcement arrived.

The man said he first saw two cars stopped on the shoulder of the exit ramp, a gray Dodge Challenger and a white Ford F250 pickup. There was a man standing near the Challenger and a woman, 20-year-old Armani Bellamy, was in the driver’s seat of the pickup.

According to the witness, Bellamy began aggressively reversing toward the Challenger, eventually striking the front of the vehicle before circling and driving toward the man, who waved for her to stop. She struck the Challenger again and then began using her vehicle “as a weapon” to run the victim over.

The witness told FHP the man attempted to flee up the embankment toward the tree line, but Bellamy continued to chase him in the truck. He lost sight of Bellamy and the victim and approached the area where the truck had stopped. The man said he saw that Bellamy had exited the truck and was trying to get a ride in an attempt to flee the scene, the affidavit said.

The victim was partially stuck under the pickup, where a bystander had stopped to render medical aid. The witness detained Bellamy until law enforcement arrived, at which point she was transported for a minor injury and later arrested.

It was later discovered that the suspect was also driving a stolen vehicle that was marked with Strong Roofing branding.

The affidavit said the victim was transported to a separate hospital, with injuries so severe that he was unable to speak to police.

Bellamy has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery, criminal mischief, first-degree attempted murder and grand theft of a motor vehicle.
