Missing coach Travis Turner wanted on child solicitation charges

(NewsNation) — The search for a missing high school football coach is now a manhunt after police say he is wanted on charges of soliciting a minor and possession of child sexual abuse material.

Travis Turner, 46, was deemed missing Thursday after Virginia State Police, en route to his home to interview him, learned he was no longer there.

Virginia State Police announced they obtained 10 warrants for his arrest on five counts of soliciting a minor using a computer and five counts of possession of child sexual abuse material, with more charges pending.

Turner is now considered a fugitive, though authorities say finding him safely is still a priority. The search has included the use of drones and K-9 units.

Wise County Public Schools, where Turner was a coach, reiterated their earlier statement that an employee had been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into external allegations but declined to name the employee.

Turner was the head football coach at Union High School, where the team was preparing for a second-round playoff game after an undefeated season. A deputy coach took over the coaching job after Turner disappeared.

Anyone with information on Turner is asked to contact the Virginia State Police at 276-484-9483 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov. .
