MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — The Massachusetts man accused of stabbing his mother’s boyfriend more than a dozen times over the weekend faced a judge Monday.
Andrew Horsman, 41, pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and was ordered held without bail, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
Cruz said officers rushed to a Fairview Street home Saturday night after receiving several 911 calls about a fight between two men that ended in a stabbing.
The officers found the victim, identified by Cruz as 66-year-old Paul Pomerleau, on the ground suffering from several stab wounds. Pomerleau was rushed to Morton Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the two men had an argument at the home over cooking steaks prior to the stabbing. Cruz said Horsman stabbed Pomerleau 17 times with a steak knife before pouring lighter fluid over his body.
Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Nicole Piacentini Lawson told the judge that their relationship became strained long before the steak dinner.
“Paul did not want Andrew living there,” Piancentini Lawson said. “He stated that he was 41 years old, did not have a job and was still living at his parents’ house.”
Piancentini Lawson said Pomerleau had also warned his family that Horsman might try to hurt him, and if he did, he would later turn on them as well.
Horsman, who left the house after the stabbing, was taken into custody nearby without incident. His next court date is slated for July 28.
