CADDO PARISH, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A man has been arrested for allegedly abusing his father and holding him hostage for several days.

Johnathan Campbell, 38, was taken into custody by Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputies after an investigation revealed that his father had suffered multiple days of physical abuse, extortion, and threats to his life.

On Sunday, December 28, deputies were called to the 4200 block of Roy Road to perform a welfare check. According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, the victim’s daughter reported that she had not heard from her father, a 63-year-old disabled man, for several days and was unable to reach him by phone. When officers arrived at the home, the victim answered the door, showing visible signs of trauma, and had blood on his face.

The sheriff’s office reported that the victim appeared both distressed and relieved. He informed officers that his son had been physically abusing him since Christmas Day. The victim also mentioned that his son had held him against his will and destroyed his only phone to prevent him from seeking help. In addition to the abuse, the father stated that his son demanded access to his bank account.

The suspect allegedly blocked all exits with a hammer and threatened to set the house on fire if the victim attempted to leave.

Campbell was arrested and booked for domestic abuse battery, domestic abuse aggravated assault, false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, and extortion.
