Skeletal remains in Fayetteville identified as man missing since 2023, police say

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) — Human skeletal remains discovered in Fayetteville, North Carolina, last week have been identified as a man missing for almost two years.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, the skeletal remains were located on March 20 just before 12:30 p.m. near the All-American Freeway at the Cliffdale Road off-ramp.

Police said the remains were identified as Jaylin Isaiah Dilday, who was reported missing in May 2023.

An examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed Dilday died from a gunshot wound to the head, according to Fayetteville police.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-433-1814. Those who have information or past communication with Dilday are asked to contact Det. C. Johnson at 910-584-6703.

Dilday was 18 when he was reported missing. In their release, police said Dilday was 20.

NewsNation affiliate WNCN has contacted Fayetteville police to confirm if Dilday was 20 at the time of his death.
