(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal counsel’s request to delay his criminal sex trafficking trial by two months was denied by the judge Friday. The trial is scheduled to commence on May 5 with jury selection and opening statements on May 12.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian cited that it was too long before the start of the trial for such a request.

Combs’ counsel cited that the prosecution has been slow to give over possible evidence for review.

The disgraced music mogul is facing federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering spanning across two decades. Combs has denied any wrongdoing. Combs has been held in custody without bail in Brooklyn since September.

Brian Steel represented Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Lamar Williams, in a racketeering trial last year, filed a motion to join Combs’ defense team earlier this week.
