(NewsNation) — Actor Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their Los Angeles home Sunday, and the couple’s son has been arrested.

Nick Reiner, who lived with his parents, was arrested and booked on murder charges early Monday morning by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, according to online records.

Nick Reiner is being held without bail, having been listed as being held on a $4 million bail earlier in the day. He will be in court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, where he will be officially charged.

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Los Angeles home and reportedly suffered stab wounds, with their deaths reported as an apparent homicide.

A neighbor of the family and a former FBI agent, Maureen O’Connell, told NewsNation their daughter first found the couple stabbed to death.

“Many people in the neighborhood say that the son, Nick, had been troubled his whole youth,” she said.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom and former President Barack Obama were among many in the entertainment and political worlds who expressed sympathy for the Reiners’ deaths.

President Donald Trump called Reiner’s death a “very sad thing” on Truth Social before criticizing the actor for his outspoken opposition to the Trump administration, a response that drew widespread criticism.

Reiner was long one of the most prolific directors in Hollywood, and his work included some of the most memorable movies of the 1980s and ’90s, including “This is Spinal Tap,” “A Few Good Men,” “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride.”

“This is a devastating loss for our city and our country,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in response to the news. “Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice. An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others.”

Reiner’s role as Meathead in Norman Lear’s 1970s TV classic “All in the Family,” alongside Carol O’Connor’s Archie Bunker, catapulted him to fame and won him two Emmy Awards. He was the son of comedic actor Carl Reiner.
