PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man is facing charges after he allegedly stabbed another man at a senior living complex on Monday.

Police responded to the Saint Elizabeth Apartments just before 4 p.m. and found the 70-year-old victim with stab wounds to his neck and collarbone area. According to the police report, he was standing outside “covered in blood.”

Officers arrested the suspect, identified as Ismael DeJesus Polanco Lovera, 79, at the scene. He’s charged with felony assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault on a person over 60 causing bodily injury.

The report says a maintenance worker recovered the knife used in the attack and turned it over to police. At last check, the victim was still being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

According to the apartment complex, an argument between the two men led to the stabbing.

“At Saint Elizabeth Community, we care deeply about the safety and well-being of all of our tenants,” the organization said in a statement. “This was an isolated incident between the two men and no one else was at risk. We are working through the legal proceedings to determine the future tenancy of the parties involved.”
