COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police are investigating the death of an newborn who was found buried Monday afternoon on the North Side.

According to an incident report, officers were called to the 4000 block of Karl Road about 1 p.m. on a report of a teen mother who had miscarried the week before and had buried the remains of the infant at the property.

Officers discovered a shallow grave that contained the body of an infant, who was pronounced dead by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

Homicide detectives were requested, leading the investigation to a home on the West Side, where two juveniles, a 17-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were arrested. Police say the girl had delivered the baby, a girl, at her home. They said it’s believed that the baby was born alive and died later.

Police said that the juvenile parents hid the pregnancy and, when the infant died, buried it at the Karl Road location.

Each has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and abuse of a corpse, and additional charges are possible.
