(NewsNation) — The Los Angeles district attorney is filing charges against Nick Reiner, son of actor Rob Reiner, for the deaths of his parents.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that Nick Reiner will face two charges of first-degree murder with special circumstances.

He remains in jail without bail. Reiner will be brought to court for arraignment after completing a medical clearance, which Hochman stressed is standard procedure.

Reiner has hired Alan Jackson as his attorney. Jackson’s other clients have included Kevin Spacey and Karen Read.

The medical examiner is still conducting an investigation into the deaths and investigators did not have an anticipated deadline for when that would be completed.

Investigators said they do not anticipate any more delays in the trial than is typical for cases with such severe charges.

Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their Los Angeles home Sunday with apparent stab wounds.

Rob Reiner and his son reportedly argued at a Christmas party earlier in the evening.

Nick Reiner was arrested later that night and booked on charges of murder. He remains in custody without bail, according to online records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Reiner had a history of substance abuse issues and worked with his father on a film about the topic.

The son of comedic actor Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner’s work included “The Princess Bride” and “When Harry Met Sally.”

The Reiners had three children together: Jake, Nick and daughter Romy. Reiner also had a daughter, Tracy, from his first marriage to Penny Marshall.
