(NewsNation) — Nick Reiner’s former lawyer has revealed why he dropped him as a client the same day he was going to be arraigned for allegedly murdering his famous parents, director Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer Reiner.
Alan Jackson was on Billy Bush’s “Hot Mic” podcast when he was asked if he is no longer representing Nick Reiner because of money.
He initially said, “that’s a confidential communication between a lot of folks that I’m not willing to disclose;” however, when questioned, he told Bush, “You can’t say that something happened with the retainer because I’ve never said that.”
Continuing, “Obviously, something happened with my ability, and my team’s ability, to continue the representation, but I don’t want you, your audience or anybody else to start speculating as to what that might be. I have not said a word about it.”
Nick Reiner’s arraignment delayed
Last week, Nick Reiner’s arraignment on first degree murder charges was postponed until Feb. 23, after Jackson asked the judge to withdraw as his council.
L.A. County Deputy Public Defender Kimberly Greene is now defending Nick Reiner.
“We feel that we have no choice at this juncture but to withdraw as council and ask to be relieved,” Jackson said. “The public defender’s office has been notified. We’ve had conversations with them. They are here, they are staffed, they are ready to take over.”
Speaking on “Hot Mic,” Jackson made it known that “Once I’m done, I’m done. I’ve withdrawn.”
Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner found dead
The Reiners were found stabbed to death in their Southern California home Dec. 14, after being discovered by their daughter.
Nick Reiner was later arrested and is currently being held without bail in Los Angeles.
Documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health stated the couple died within “minutes” of receiving “multiple sharp force injuries” with a “knife, by another.”
A motive for the killings has yet to be revealed, but multiple reports indicate that Nick had gotten into an argument with his father at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien on Saturday.
