(NewsNation) — Federal authorities arrested two men accused of planting an explosive device under a local news station van in Utah, leading to an evacuation of the area.

Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahmed Nasir, 31, face several federal charges, including possessing weapons of mass destruction, attempted aggravated arson and threat of terrorism, according to NewsNation affiliate KTVX.

Bomb squads discovered an incendiary device under a KSTU news van in Magna, located outside Salt Lake City, that was parked next to an occupied building Friday, the outlet reported.

The device had reportedly been lit but failed to function as designed, police said.

The FBI tracked the explosive to the two suspects who lived nearby, according to KTVX.

Authorities also found two “hoax weapons of mass destruction,” two firearms and illegal narcotics inside the suspects’ home.

Officials evacuated the area near the home and began the proper procedure for disposing of the devices.

The incident came two days after the fatal shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, which occurred about 40 miles south.

“FOX 13 News is working closely with law-enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority,” the news outlet said in a statement.

Both suspects had protective orders restricting them from possessing firearms due to illegal drug use, KTVX reported.
