DENVER (KDVR) — Police in Commerce City, Colorado, had an eventful weekend like usual, but this time there was one arrest that stood out from the others.
The Commerce City Police Department shared some of the most significant incidents that happened over the weekend in its weekly post on YouTube.
Over the weekend, there were over 300 calls, and one particularly unusual event that the department described as “truly bizarre.”
Overnight Friday into Saturday, the police department said a man allegedly crawled under a gate into the department’s secured parking lot and managed to get inside and steal a patrol vehicle.
He then took the police vehicle on “the briefest (and we DO mean BRIEF) of joy rides,” police said in a post on Facebook.
Police said the incident was brief, as he was stopped by police while driving around the Commerce City Civic Center.
When police got him out of the vehicle, they discovered that he was not wearing any clothes. In the body-worn camera footage shared by police, the man appeared to be holding a piece of cloth or a flag over his waist area.
He was arrested on the spot and was immediately taken to the Adams County Jail on charges of:
- Third-degree motor vehicle theft
- Second-degree criminal trespass
- Driving without a license
The police department said it also recovered multiple stolen vehicles and arrested multiple DUI suspects over the weekend.
