(NewsNation) — A member of the notorious Gambino crime family, Angelo Ruggiero Jr. has been denied bail and remains in custody after being arrested in an FBI probe into allegedly rigged poker games.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York said Ruggiero Jr. is being held due to a prior conviction for witness tampering.
At least three members or associates of the Bonanno crime family, including defendants Ernest Aiello and Julius Ziliani, were listed in the indictment.
A date has not yet been set regarding the arraignment of Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Bills and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, both of whom are on leave from their respective NBA franchises.
Former NBA player Damon Jones will be arraigned Nov. 6 in Brooklyn Federal Court.
According to the attorney’s office, a status conference for all defendants in U.S. v. Aiello et al. will be held Nov. 24 in the Brooklyn Federal Courthouse.
Billups was arrested in Oregon and charged in relation to an alleged wide-ranging scheme to rig underground poker games connected to the La Cosa Nostra crime families, authorities said.
Meanwhile, Rozier is accused of participating in an illegal sports betting scheme using private insider NBA information, according to officials.
