(NewsNation) — Charges have been filed against a man suspected of fatally striking a woman with a car while allegedly attempting to hit his girlfriend.

The suspect, Sanden James George, 35, is charged with murder and assault on a family member according to a news release from the Houston Police Department.

Police said, based on evidence and witness statements, George and his 24-year-old girlfriend were in a physical altercation inside a nightclub before security told them to leave. Police say that once outside, George got into his car and tried to hit the girlfriend but instead hit another woman.

The family of the victim, who has yet to be identified by police, confirmed she was a manager at a nearby nightclub and was walking home from work when she died.

George was taken into custody by responding Houston Police Department officers after attempting to flee on foot. Records show that he is due in a district court on Wednesday.
