Man, 93, turns himself in after allegedly shooting, killing 86-year-old spouse, police say

FREMONT, Calif. (WJW) – A 93-year-old man reportedly turned himself in to California police after allegedly shooting and killing his spouse on Saturday. 

According to a press release from the Fremont Police Department, officers were dispatched to a parking lot on the 5000 block of Mowry Avenue in Fremont after a reported shooting. 

On the phone with officials, the caller advised them that he shot his spouse and wanted to turn himself in, the release said. 

When they arrived at the scene, officers detained the 93-year-old, who was near his vehicle. 

Officers then located the 86-year-old victim in the front passenger seat, the release said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. A gun was also found inside the vehicle.

The suspect, Richard Hocking, was taken to the Fremont Police Department, where he provided a statement to detectives and told them the reasoning behind the shooting, the release said. 

According to he release, Hocking was then booked into jail on homicide and gun-related enhancement charges. 

This remains an active investigation.
