(NewsNation) — The Los Angeles Police Department and LA Mayor Karen Bass announced multiple arrests Monday in a theft ring bust in Southern California.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said eight alleged members of the Rich Rollin’ Crew were responsible for 92 break-ins dating back to 2022, though the majority occurred in the last two years. He said the group was taking luxury items from the targeted homes to resell.
News of the arrests came after reports of burglaries at the homes of celebrities like actor Brad Pitt, WWE stars Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp.
In July, “American Idol” executive Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas DeLuca, were killed during a break-in at their Encino home.
McDonnell said that while the crew was not connected to the burglary at Kaye’s home and several others that have occurred in the Encino area, the department has made progress on those cases and would “continue to dedicate significant resources” to find those responsible.
LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said many of those arrested in Monday’s bust had strikes against them for previous crimes and said some may be looking at life sentences after a third strike.
Charges were pending Monday against the eight people accused.
