(NewsNation) — A massive manhunt is underway after an inmate escaped from a Louisiana jail last week, a report said.
People.com said officers are searching for Keith Eli after he, Johnathan Jevon Joseph and Allen Harrington broke out of the St. Landry Parish Jail.
Joseph was captured Friday after investigators received a tip that he was hiding in a storage shed. Harrington was found dead at a home after he committed suicide the day before, authorities said.
“We will continue our efforts, without end, to apprehend Keith Eli. We would prefer that he surrender himself peaceably,” St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said. “But we will not rest until he is captured.”
Guidroz said the inmates successfully escaped by removing blocks from a degrading wall in the prison to create a hole and using sheets to assist them in climbing down a wall and dropping to the ground.
“An internal investigation has been initiated, the jail supervisory staff will be providing a comprehensive report, and both will be forwarded to my office for appropriate action,” Guidroz added.
Authorities said Eli was being jailed on a charge of second-degree murder. Joseph was in prison for charges including rape and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Harrington had faced several felony charges.
In October, another inmate escaped from St. Landry Parish Jail before being recaptured by the Opelousas Police Department.
