(NewsNation) — A court reduced the bond for a Texas teen accused of fatally stabbing another teenager at a track meet and said he would allow house arrest for the suspect.
Karmelo Anthony, 17, is charged in the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf following a verbal dispute at a track meet in Frisco, Texas.
After the verbal dispute, Anthony allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Metcalf in the chest. Metcalf died in the arms of his twin brother.
Anthony was taken into police custody without incident. He reportedly asked officers if the incident could be considered self-defense.
His bond was reduced to $250,000 from $1 million at the request of lawyers hired by his family.
If Anthony’s parents post on bond, he will be released on house arrest. Anthony would be required to wear an ankle monitor and only permitted to travel to his attorney’s office or meetings at the court.
He would also be required to check in with the court regularly, be supervised by a parent or designated adult at all times and would not be allowed to have contact with Metcalf’s family.
