5 human trafficking victims rescued in Mississippi, officials say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Five human trafficking victims have been found in Southaven, Mississippi, according to the State of Mississippi Attorney General’s office.

On May 1, Operation 806 was conducted by Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s Human Trafficking Task Force. Investigators and prosecutors worked alongside federal, state, and local law enforcement to serve two search warrants.

During the search efforts, five human trafficking victims were found, and a man named Randy Poindexter was arrested.

The following agencies participated in the recovery efforts,

  • DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
  • Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Hernando Police Department
  • Mississippi Department of Revenue-Alcoholic Beverage Control
  • Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks
  • Southaven Police Department.

“My office is committed to taking criminals who traffic people off the streets and equally committed to setting victims on the road to recovery,” said Attorney General Fitch. “We are grateful to our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners who worked with us on Operation 806 and who are a part of our task force network.”

The Center for Violence Prevention has also provided services and treatment to the victims.

The Attorney General’s human trafficking team has led 58 multi-jurisdictional operations, leading to 99 arrests and rescuing over 300 victims.
