(NewsNation) — A suspect is in custody following a police-involved shooting at a casino and resort in Reno, Nevada, on Monday.
At least three people were killed and three were injured in the shooting.
Authorities have said an adult male suspect is in custody and has been hospitalized. Reno police said the suspect had multiple magazines of ammunition on him at the time of the shootings.
One officer sustained minor injuries, according to local police officials.
Authorities said two victims remain in critical condition, and one has been released from the hospital.
“At this time, we have no reason to believe that there’s a connection between any of the victims and the suspect,” said Sparks police Chief Chris Crawforth. “And we have no known motive for the suspect.”
Caroline Ackerman, a spokesperson for Renown Regional Medical Center, said the hospital’s emergency department received several patients with gunshot wounds.
“There was incredible, swift action that took place, and it apprehended this individual from going into the building,” said Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. “That is really, really remarkable.”
The shooting was reported around 7:30 a.m. local time and involved a Washoe County Sheriff’s Department officer at the Grand Sierra Resort.
The Grand Sierra is located near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport and is one of the tallest buildings in the city, holding nearly 2,000 hotel rooms.
