(NewsNation) — A shooting on FSU’s campus killed two and injured eight Thursday, despite police arriving within minutes.

Authorities released a timeline of the shooting and the emergency response, revealing how the situation unfolded.

At approximately 11 a.m. ET, the suspect arrived at an FSU parking garage and spent about an hour moving in and out of his vehicle.

At 11:51 a.m., he left the garage.

Between 11: 56 a.m. and 11:57 a.m., the suspect fired the first shot, walking in and out of buildings and green spaces firing a handgun.

By 11:58 a.m. there were multiple 911 calls reporting an active shooting on campus and nearby officers began responding.

At 12 p.m., the suspect was shot by responding officers after refusing to obey commands and was taken into custody.

Police identified the alleged shooter as 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner, who is the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s deputy. He is believed to have used her former service weapon, which she purchased as a personal firearm, in the shooting.

Ikner had been a member of the sheriff’s office’s youth advisory council, and authorities said it was not surprising he had access to weapons.

A fellow FSU student said that Ikner had been kicked out of a political club on campus for espousing white supremacist views.

The shooting is still under investigation and authorities are continuing to interview witnesses and collect photos and videos taken during the shooting at www.fbi.gov/fsushooting.
