MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man was arrested Monday in connection with the disappearance and murder of a woman from the United Kingdom.

Dwain Hall, 53, of Ocala was taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Agents began investigating on Oct. 13 after being contacted by U.K. authorities in reference to the woman’s disappearance. Authorities did not name the victim but said she was from England.

According to investigators, the woman missed her scheduled flight back to England on the afternoon of Oct. 13.

Days later, on Oct. 17, detectives found what appeared to be human remains in Marion Oaks, an unincorporated community south of Ocala.

The remains were confirmed to be those of the missing woman from England, and authorities said her death was ruled a homicide.

Hall was already behind bars for fraudulent use of the victim’s credit cards when FDLE agents said they gathered enough evidence to charge him in the woman’s murder.

“Our agents worked with extraordinary speed and unwavering determination to ensure justice was served and closure was brought to the victim’s family,” said FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass in a statement. “This type of violent crime and disregard for human life will not be tolerated in our state — those who commit such heinous crimes will be held fully accountable.”

Several local, state and federal agencies assisted in the international investigation, including the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

The State Attorney’s Office Fifth Judicial Circuit is prosecuting the case, and as the investigation remains active, officials are asking anyone with further information to come forward.
