NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The family of well-known local real estate company owner Judy Boone said she was shot three times in her home on New Year’s Eve during what they say was a “botched burglary.” They say she is currently in the hospital recovering.
A sliding glass door and a side window are now boarded up where bullets entered the Norfolk home belonging to Boone, the owner of the well-known local real estate company Judy Boone Realty Inc. and who some call the Queen of Ocean View.
Boone’s family issued a statement on the shooting:
Judy was shot 3 times in her home on New Year’s Eve. She is in the hospital recovering. And more than the pain she’s feeling, she is furious such a thing could happen! At this time we believe this was the result of a botched burglary.
‘Our family is grateful for the outpouring of thoughts and prayers from the community.
We ask for privacy as she continues to heal.
Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi spoke to NewsNation affiliate WAVY Friday about the shooting investigation, and he shed some more light on the investigation.
“I can tell you that there is no threat to anybody else in the neighborhood,” Fatehi said. “It did not appear to be a random offense, but beyond that, for both the integrity of the investigation and out of respect for the rights of anybody ultimately charged, I can’t tell you more.”
Although police have not confirmed Boone was hit by the gunfire, a neighbor told WAVY that Boone was shot inside her home by someone outside.
Norfolk Police did confirm officers responded to a home just before midnight on New Year’s Eve. They arrived to find a 72-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound they said was not life-threatening. Boone is 72 years old.
Wednesday night, the sliding glass door to her bedroom at her home was shot up, as was a separate window to her bedroom.
WAVY reached out to a Sentara Health spokesperson who confirmed Judy Boone is in a local hospital, in fair condition, recovering from a single gunshot wound.
On police scanner traffic from 11:58 p.m. on Dec. 31, a dispatcher states, “it’s Judy Boone calling in… saying she was shot.”
The investigation is ongoing. Police have not said if they believe this was targeted or accidental, or if they have any suspects in this case.
Norfolk Circuit Court was closed Thursday and Friday in Norfolk for the New Year’s holiday, so WAVY is unable to obtain any court paperwork about this case this week.
WAVY reached out to Judy Boone Realty, Inc. about the shooting and received the reply, ‘no comment.’
