ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — An Escambia County postal driver was arrested after Florida Highway Patrol officials said he tried to hit a 10-year-old with his mail vehicle.
According to the Escambia County Jail log, 41-year-old William White Jr. was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, theft and criminal mischief.
An FHP crash report said on Dec. 27, White dropped off a package at a home on Kingfisher Way that was not at the correct home.
The report said the 10-year-old, who lives at the home that the package was dropped off at, noticed that it was at the wrong house and was going to take it to the right house.
Officials say the child got on an electric scooter with the package and headed to the correct home. White saw what was happening and thought the child was stealing the package.
Because of that, White drove the vehicle towards the child and hit the scooter, according to the report.
The child was able to get out of the way before the collision.
White reportedly yelled at the child and put the scooter in his vehicle.
Officials say a family member of the child followed the USPS vehicle to confront the driver. White then threw the scooter into a yard on Blue Jay Way.
White was interviewed on Dec. 31st and arrested.
