(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former personal assistant, David James, testified in the fallen music mogul’s federal sex crimes trial on Tuesday that he was an eyewitness to an armed encounter with Suge Knight.

In November 2008, James recalled going to a Mel’s Drive-In, a diner in Los Angeles, to pick up food with one of Combs’ personal bodyguards around 4 AM.

When they got there, the bodyguard claimed to have seen someone hand off a gun to Knight, James said.

The two men went back to Combs’ LA residence which was about 10 minutes away. Combs was anxious to go the diner and confront Knight, however, his then-girlfriend, Cassie, was upset and did not want him to go, James testified.

Combs demanded that James drive him and his bodyguard, D-Roc, to the diner.

While driving, the ex-assistant said he turned around to see Combs with three guns on his lap.

When the men arrived at the diner, Knight and his group had left and James said they returned to the record label executive’s LA residence.

“I was real shook up by it. This was the first time being Mr. Combs’ assistant that I realized my life was in danger,” James said.
