(NewsNation) — Sean “Diddy” Combs’ former assistant was given immunity ahead of his testimony Wednesday, after telling the judge he planned to invoke the Fifth Amendment if he was compelled to testify.

A former personal assistant to Combs, George Kaplan, took the witness stand for the prosecution. He worked for the record executive from 2013-2015, and testified he purchased drugs, MDMA, for his then-boss two times.

Before that, a federal agent who helped plan the raid on Combs’ Miami property last year returned to the stand Wednesday to testify about the investigation.

Special Agent Gerard Gannon, of Homeland Security Investigations, was in charge of planning the raid on Combs’ mansion on Star Island in Miami last year.

Two of his properties, one in Miami and one in Los Angeles, were searched by investigators in the lead to this September 2024 arrest.

Gannon said that agents who had a search warrant to enter Combs’ property in March 2024 used an armored vehicle to get through the mogul’s security gate, and there were teams on boats. About 80-90 federal agents were deployed for the search, and six Combs’ employees were searched.

Parts of two AR-15 rifles found on the property were shown to the jury.

Gannon testified Tuesday that the agents discovered lingerie, lubricant, condoms, sex toys, baby oil and platform high heels as well as weapons.

On Wednesday, Teny Geragos, Combs’ attorney, questioned the measures taken during the search.

Geragos asked, “So, HSI determined it would come in by land and by sea to secure the property?”

Gannon said that the search was conducted after Combs and his family left the property. Combs’ Los Angeles home was searched as well.

Gannon said over 500 images were taken during the search.

Additionally, Gannon testified that the federal investigation began shortly after Ventura filed her civil lawsuit against the hip-hop record label executive.

Prosecutors release evidence photos from Diddy’s Miami home

Graphic content warning: Some images include explicit material.

On Wednesday, the SDNY released images of what was found during the federal raid on Combs’ Star Island mansion, including illicit drugs, sex toys, lubricant, baby oil, platform high heels, and guns.

Tamara Holder, a Chicago-based sexual abuse attorney, told NewsNation on Wednesday that the government released the images to corroborate what the prosecution’s witnesses, particularly Ventura, have testified to.

“They (the prosecution) are saying that Diddy had an enterprise called the Combs Enterprise. He used his businesses to engage in these activities. The trafficking is one count, victim 1, presumably Cassie, and he used her to engage in commercial sex acts (prostitution),” Holder said.

…”The photos and lube are actually helpful to understand and here is why. If you were just a kinky person, this is not the kind of personal use amount of lube you’d keep in your house. For example, if you were a cocaine user and got arrested the cops would find a personal use amount of drugs on you and charge you with possession. But if your home was searched and they found drugs beyond personal use, a kilo plus a scale and baggies, it is clear you are in possession with ‘intent to deliver’ which means you are running a drug dealing business. I think the lube and cash is really damning; that is not just a fun ‘Freak Off.'”

Forensic psychologist testifies why victims stay with abusers

After Gannon completed his testimony, a New York-based forensic and clinical psychologist, Dr. Dawn Hughes, testified as a blind expert witness for the prosecution with no ties to anyone in the case. She is being paid by the prosecution $6000 to testify.

Hughes has been an expert witness for other high-profile cases like the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial. She was seen entering the courtroom on Wednesday morning.

During Hughes’ testimony, she did not address the Ventura and Combs case specifically but rather explained the dynamic between a domestic abuse victim and their abuser, like love bombing, trauma bonds, psychological and financial abuse.

The psychologist explained the effect of trauma on the brain, like memory issues.

The prosecution and defense have gone back and forth over what Dr. Hughes is able to say on the stand. The judge ruled that she cannot use the term “coercive control” and cannot offer her opinion on the credibility of the victims.

Former Diddy assistant, receives immunity to testify

Kaplan said he would set up the hotel rooms for Combs ahead of time, including putting out baby oil and lubricant, and he assisted in the cleanup afterwards.

He told the jury that it was implied that part of his job was to protect Combs and his public image.

Kaplan said he would sometimes be called to a hotel room to deliver a “medical kit” with prescription pills and over-the-counter pain medication. He was also sent to buy drugs, including MDMA.

He testified that Combs threatened his job and berated him often, once for buying the wrong-sized water bottle. Kaplan told the jury that after he witnessed Combs beating Ventura, he quit.

After receiving a subpoena from the prosecution, he said he would plead the Fifth. He received immunity ahead of his expected testimony on Wednesday afternoon. He is expected to resume his testimony on Thursday.

Kid Cudi expected to testify this week

Rapper Kid Cudi is expected to follow Kaplan on the witness stand Thursday.

In 2011, the rapper briefly dated Ventura during a break from her long-time relationship with Combs.
