(NewsNation) — Relatives of singer D4vd were on the receiving end of a swatting prank in Texas after a fake 911 on Sept. 18, according to TMZ reporting.

The call alleged a shooting had happened and a dead body was found there, claims that were quickly dismissed by authorities, TMZ’s Charles Latibeaudiere said on NewsNation’s “Banfield” Tuesday.

“I think they figured out pretty quickly, when David’s parents came to the door, that that’s what was going on here. They didn’t see any activity … It would have been pretty obvious to them if there was some crisis going on as they pulled up,” Latibeaudiere said.

Investigation ongoing into Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death, D4vd connection

The call came a day after the 20-year-old’s Los Angeles home was raided in connection with the discovery of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez‘s body in a Tesla registered under his legal name, David Burke.

She had been missing since April 2024, when she was just 13, according to police.

Questions have swirled surrounding Burke’s relationship with Rivas Hernandez, with some pointing to alleged matching tattoos, song titles and comments from friends.

Friends of the singer “frequently” saw the pair together and believed they “were romantically involved,” TMZ senior news reporter Charlie Neff told NewsNation in September.

D4vd not home when police responded to swatting call: TMZ

Body footage obtained by TMZ did not show Burke at the house as police responded on Sept. 18, though his mom referenced a son and a daughter in the home.

“They’re both minors, so that’s what we think they’re talking about,” Latibeaudiere said, referencing the siblings.

When pressed on whether Burke’s parents may have been covering for him, Latibeaudiere said he doesn’t think they were involved enough in his career to know his whereabouts.

“There’s nothing we’ve heard that makes it seem like his mom had that much control over him at this point,” he said. “So, I don’t think necessarily she knew exactly where he was, you know, at every moment during this tour.”
