(NewsNation) — Bystanders in Florida helped save a mother and two young children from a man trying to pull them into an SUV.

Witnesses outside the Department of Motor Vehicles in Jacksonville, Florida, saw a man driving away in an SUV while a woman was trying to pull two young children, ages 2 and 6 months, out of the back seat.

Investigators say the man was driving off against the woman’s will, dragging her and one of the children through the parking lot.

Bystanders stepped up to help the woman and children, getting them to safety before the driver fled the scene. The witnesses also provided police with a description of the vehicle and the license plate number.

Police later identified and arrested 26-year-old Yanni Human as the suspect.

Human is charged with child abuse, false imprisonment, battery, possession of marijuana and resisting an officer.
