Bomb threats reported at New Jersey polling sites

(NewsNation) — Bomb threats were reported at multiple voting locations across New Jersey as Election Day kicked off, authorities said.

Lt. Gov. Tahesha Way said on social media that law enforcement determined there were no credible threats as of Tuesday morning.

“We are doing everything in our power to protect voters and poll workers and encourage every eligible voter to exercise their right to vote,” she wrote.

According to NewsNation affiliate WPIX, threats were received at polling places in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean and Passaic counties. Some locations reopened after the threats were found to be false, while voters at others were told to go elsewhere to cast their votes.

Authorities said the threat came in the form of an email to the various polling sites as a way to dissuade people from going out to cast their vote and from volunteering as a poll worker.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate in New York City’s mayoral race, commented on the incidents, calling them “incredibly concerning” and “a threat on our democracy.”
