Ashlee Buzzard’s home in disarray following murder arrest

(NewsNation) — A woman’s California home appeared in disarray following her arrest in the death of her 9-year-old daughter, according to exclusive video obtained by NewsNation.

Footage of Ashlee Buzzard‘s home shows boxes and personal items scattered across the floor and couches overturned.

It was not immediately clear whether the condition of the home resulted from a law enforcement search or reflected its state when authorities arrived.

Among items seen in the video was a small white chair that appeared to belong to Buzzard’s daughter Melodee, whose body was found in a remote area of Utah weeks after she was reported missing.

Buzzard, 40, was arrested by the FBI and booked without bail into the Santa Barbara County Jail.

Melodee was reported missing Oct. 14 after school officials flagged her prolonged absence. Deputies later visited the family’s Lompoc home, where Buzzard declined to say where her daughter was, Sheriff Bill Brown said.

Authorities have not identified a motive and do not believe anyone else was involved.

Investigators said Melodee was last seen on video Oct. 9 with her mother near the Colorado-Utah border and is believed to have been killed shortly afterward. Her remains were discovered Dec. 6 in a remote area of Wayne County, Utah, and she was determined to have died from gunshot wounds to the head.

Detectives traced a cross-country trip in a rental car, alleging Buzzard used disguises, switched license plates and took steps to avoid surveillance.

Ballistics evidence and DNA later linked Buzzard to the Utah crime scene, Brown said. He added that investigators maintained round-the-clock surveillance on Buzzard throughout the investigation.
