(NewsNation) — An Amber Alert has been cancelled for a Florida teen who was reported missing amid unsubstantiated claims of kidnapping, according to authorities.
Officers initially said Caden Speight, 17, was a victim of a shooting, but after issuing a subsequent statement, it is unclear whether he was injured. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said he was located safely in Williston.
Officers initially responded to a shooting investigation, and Speight’s car was found in the area, but he was not located.
“Detectives obtained information and collected evidence that is unsupportive of the initially reported facts,” the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The department said there is now no evidence that Speight was kidnapped or is in the company of others.
