AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — A student was arrested after investigators said she brought a gun to an Ohio high school on Monday, leading to a lockdown.
According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy working at Buchtel High School in Akron noticed a possible firearm in a student’s bag during a security screening on Monday.
The deputy discovered that the bag, containing a 9 mm pistol, belonged to a 17-year-old student, the sheriff’s office said. The firearm was confiscated.
The student was arrested and taken to the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center. She is charged with illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school, a felony of the fourth degree.
Buchtel High School was placed on lockdown during the incident, the sheriff’s office said.
