(NewsNation) — Singer Akon was arrested near Atlanta last week after police picked him up on an outstanding warrant.
Akon, whose legal name is Aliaune Badara Thiam, was taken into custody by the Chamblee Police Department last Friday, reported CBS News, which viewed the incident report.
Police arrested Akon after a Flock camera flagged his Tesla Cybertruck, which had been parked at a business called Tint World, according to the outlet.
The Chamblee Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment by NewsNation.
Akon’s car had been tagged in a warrant by the Roswell Police Department, which is about 20 miles north of where the singer was arrested.
Akon’s identity was confirmed through his driver’s license photo, and told he was being arrested on an active warrant.
Police said Akon remained calm during the interaction and no weapons or contraband were found during a search. He told officers that he was aware of the warrant, according to the outlet.
He was later booked at the DeKalb County Jail for failing to appear on a charge for a suspended license.
That charge came from an incident with the Roswell Police Department last month, police reports obtained by NewsNation showed. Roswell police officers had found Akon stranded in the same Tesla Cybertruck he was arrested in after the vehicle’s battery had died.
A vehicle registration check showed no valid insurance, and Akon was operating the truck on a suspended driver’s license dating back to January 2023.
The singer was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and released. Police also seized an illegal vape found in the center console.
