(NewsNation) — Taxpayers can begin filing taxes Monday, Jan. 26, through Sunday, April 15, also known as Tax Day.

Most people will file a tax return, though not everyone is required to do so, per Internal Revenue Service income requirements.

What is the minimum income to file this year’s tax return?

Those filing single should file if their income is above $15,750. Couples under age 65 filing together have a minimum income requirement of $31,500 ($33,100 if one spouse is under 65 years old).

Anyone above the age of 65 by the end of last year has different minimum income amounts. For single filers, it’s $17,550 and above; for couples, $33,100 if one spouse is under 65; and $34,700 if both spouses are 65 or older.

However, the IRS notes people can still file taxes if their income is below those thresholds because they can still take advantage of some tax credits and may receive a refund.

The IRS has other requirements, in addition to income, for tax filers.
