LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Years ago, the infinite decimal 3.14 or its Greek symbol pi was mostly known to math and science geeks, but now March 14 is also a day for tasty deals.
Here’s a little history to whet the appetite.
The first “Pi Day” celebration was held in San Francisco in 1988 when a physicist at the Exploratorium, a science museum, started the tradition of celebrating the number with fellow employees at the science museum. Since then, the celebration has grown, and the symbol pi has evolved. Pi Day + food = good deals, especially when it comes to pizza pies.
Several restaurants are offering deals on pizzas and other food to celebrate Pi Day:
- Blaze Pizza is offering a BOGO deal. Buy one 11-inch pizza and get a second for $3.14. People who dine in the restaurant can also get a code that unlocks another BOGO deal good anytime in March.
- BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse dine-in guests can buy a Pizookie dessert for $3.14.
- Burger King Royal Perks members can get a free Hershey Pie with any $3.14 purchase.
- California Pizza Kitchen CPK Rewards members can get a $3.14 BBQ chicken, pepperoni, or cheese pizza with a minimum purchase of $25.
- Famous Dave’s will give customers a free slice of its Bakers Square pie with a minimum $10 purchase.
- Grimaldi’s will offer “giant” slices of pizza for $3.14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at select locations.
- Papa Murphy’s customers will get a 31.4% discount on orders placed online when they use the promo code: PIDAY25.
- 7-Eleven 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members a whole pizza for $3.14 at participating stores.
- Chuck E. Cheese guests who purchase one large pizza will get a medium one-topping pizza for $3.14 using the coupon on their website.
In case you’re wondering, pi or 3.14 is a calculation related to circles. It’s the distance around any circle to the diameter of that circle. What makes it so unique is that no matter the size of the circle, the ratio doesn’t change. It will always equal pi — or pie, if you’re celebrating the day.
