(NewsNation) — Those hoping to get their hands on a Trump-branded, gold-colored smartphone will have to wait longer.

Trump Mobile, a phone venture launched under the Trump brand last year, has delayed plans to ship the device, citing the government shutdown for the holdup, the Financial Times reported.

The T1 gold-colored phone was initially slated to launch in August for $499, but it didn’t ship by the end of 2025. A customer service representative for Trump Mobile told CBS News that delivery would be pushed back until the end of January.

NewsNation has reached out to Trump Mobile and the Trump Organization for an updated timeline.

President Donald Trump’s sons unveiled Trump Mobile in June, pitching the wireless service as “all-American” and an “unbeatable value,” while promising a “sleek, gold smartphone.”

The T1 phone was initially promoted on the company’s website as being “MADE IN THE USA,” but that language was later changed. The site now says the phone was “designed with American values in mind” and “brought to life” in the U.S.

In the meantime, Trump Mobile has begun offering second-hand devices from Apple and Samsung, which the company says are sold “without the inflated price tag.” A “renewed” iPhone 15 is listed for $629, while the Samsung S24 is priced at $459.

To secure the yet-to-be-released gold-colored phone, customers must pay a $100 deposit upfront, which is refundable before the phone ships.

It is still unclear who is manufacturing the gold-colored handset or when it will ship.
