(NewsNation) — Unfortunately for gamers in the U.S., Nintendo has announced pricing updates to the original Nintendo Switch and related products, set to go into effect Aug. 3.
The announcement comes on the same day as Nintendo reported huge first-quarter profits following the release of the Switch 2.
The items set to see price increases include:
- Nintendo Switch
- Nintendo Switch OLED Model
- Nintendo Switch Lite
- Select Nintendo Switch accessories
- Select Nintendo Switch 2 accessories
- Select amiibo accesories
- Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo
Nintendo said the decision to raise prices on the now 8-year-old Nintendo Switch and other products was made “based on market conditions.”
Though not explicitly stated, the price hikes could be reflective of President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and their impact on countries involved in Nintendo’s supply chain.
“Twenty percent tariff on Vietnam, 30% tariff on China, 15% tariff on Japan. All markets that Nintendo relies on for hardware and software production,” tweeted Daniel Ahmad, Director of Research & Insights at Niko Partners.
Following the announcement, Target briefly listed price increases between $30 to $50 on various models. They have since gone back to their original prices.
Nintendo noted that the price changes will not affect the Nintendo Switch 2, Switch games or online memberships. However, they did note that “price adjustments may be necessary in the future.”
In June, Nintendo made a similar pricing announcement for the Canadian market.
