(NewsNation) — Artificial intelligence continues to gain new ground, with Hertz now utilizing its analysis capabilities.

The rental car company has employed an AI-powered scanner that analyzes whether damage has been done to vehicles upon return.

According to The Drive, one customer is displeased with the outcomes arising from this new technology.

The man, known as “Patrick,” told the outlet that Hertz said he needed to pay $440 for a 1-inch scratch on the right side of the vehicle, specifically just above the wheel.

Per The Drive, he received the bill “minutes” after returning the vehicle and was offered a $52 discount if he paid it within the first 48 hours.

Hetz provided a statement to the outlet saying that “digital vehicle inspections help deliver on that with clear, detailed documentation that is delivered more quickly, as well as a more technology-enabled resolution process.”

Patrick has reportedly not yet made the repayment.
