(NewsNation) — A former housekeeper for the Murdaugh family believes Alex Murdaugh will never admit to the crimes for which he was convicted.

Murdaugh was convicted in 2023 for the double murders of his wife, Maggie, and his 22-year-old son, Paul, who were found shot to death on the estate in 2021.

Murdaugh was also convicted on other crimes, including a pricey insurance scheme and myriad financial offenses. He’s been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison — on top of two life sentences for murder.

Blanca Turrubiate-Simpson and co-author Mary Frances Weaver joined “Banfield” to discuss their book, “Within the House of Murdaugh: Amid a Unique Friendship — Blanca and Maggie,” which chronicles her 14 years working for the family and gives readers a glimpse into the “secrets of the infamous Murdaugh family.”

“I do believe he did it, I am convinced that he did it, but I don’t believe that he will ever tell anybody the truth,” Turrubiate-Simpson told NewsNation.

Weaver told “Banfield” she cannot fathom why Murdaugh could have committed such atrocities, given stories she had heard about the family’s close bond.

“What is hard for me to wrap my head around is the fact that Blanca has shared so many, many details about the family, the family unit, how they interacted with one another, and it was really a very lovely, caring family with many examples to back that up,” Weaver said.

“For him to go from that, his family, to go from that to seeing him in the courtroom, he just appeared to me to be pure evil, and that was very difficult for me to wrap my head around,” she added.
