(NewsNation) — Suspected UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione‘s defense has filed a motion to suppress evidence, arguing that Altoona police violated the 26-year-old’s rights and unlawfully detained him.
Blair County defense attorney Thomas Dickey, who is representing Mangione, alleges that police then illegally seized Mangione’s backpack and other personal belongings.
Former NYPD Lt. Cmdr. Joe Cardinale believes police were “very professional.”
“Unless there’s something on video that we don’t know about … these cops acted very professionally. They weren’t rough or demeaning,” Cardinale said during a Friday appearance on NewsNation’s “Banfield.” “Police have to go in that bag. You’re dealing with somebody who you beyond reasonably suspect for the murder in NYC. You have to check the bag.”
