HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (NewsNation) — Attorney Randy Hood, who represents the woman suing John-Paul Miller and his father for alleged “sexual abuse and predatory conduct,” says his client experienced guilt and shame after learning about Mica Miller’s death.

“In her mind, what if she had done something different? What if she’d come forward earlier?” Hood said during an exclusive conversation with NewsNation correspondent Rich McHugh.

Mica Miller was found dead in April 2025 while in the process of divorcing her estranged husband, South Carolina pastor John-Paul Miller. Her death has raised suspicions, but John-Paul Miller has denied any involvement.

The recent 43-page complaint alleges that John-Paul touched the woman’s genitals without her consent as recently as 2023 and that the assault “triggered repressed memories” of a previous assault by him that allegedly occurred nearly 20 years earlier when she was 15 years old and he was 19.

It doesn’t mention whether the woman has provided information about the allegations to any law enforcement officials.

The lawsuit names the Millers, All Nations Cathedral Church, formerly Cathedral Baptist Church of the Grand Strand, and Solid Rock Ministries. NewsNation affiliate WBTW has reached out to her Rock Hill-based attorney Randall Hood for comment.

“The Defendants — both individually and together — have built, maintained and concealed a system of sexual misconduct that harmed numerous minors, including Plaintiff Jane Doe #1,” the complaint says.

The woman, now an adult, lives in Indiana, and the lawsuit says she is being identified as “Jane Doe” to avoid the risk of “humiliation and embarrassment.”

NewsNation, as well as our affiliate WBTW, reached out to John-Paul Miller for comment. Attorney Russell Long, who has represented Miller in other legal matters, declined comment.

Mica Miller’s death

Mica Miller, 30, was found dead of a gunshot injury in Lumber River state park in North Carolina on April 27, 2024. Her death was officially ruled a suicide, but her friends and family have suggested otherwise and pointed to what they say is a history of abuse by John-Paul Miller against his wife.

After her death was ruled a suicide, other theories spread online based on information about the couple’s marriage, including a 911 call days before her death where Mica Miller said she was scared for her life after finding a GPS tracker on her car.

The couple was estranged while Mica Miller was seeking a divorce from her husband, and her family has said, based on her statements and journals, that she was a victim of abuse and coercive control by her husband.

John-Paul Miller had served as a pastor at Solid Rock Church but was released after his wife’s death. He has denied all reports of abuse and said he was trying to get help for his estranged wife, who he said was mentally ill.
