(NewsNation) — Dave Aronberg, a state attorney for Palm Beach County in Florida, is certain Bryan Kohberger will continue to face capital punishment, despite the defense team’s attempt to get the death penalty removed.
“They’re trying everything and anything, but it’s not gonna work,” Aronberg said Friday on “Banfield.” “Idaho is a conservative state. … This case is gonna stay a capital punishment case.”
Kohberger — a 29-year-old criminal justice graduate student — faces first-degree murder and burglary charges for allegedly breaking into an off-campus rental house in November 2022 and killing University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin.
Prosecutors plan to pursue the death penalty if Kohberger is found guilty.
Kohberger’s defense team is “doing their best to save his life,” but Aronberg doesn’t think it’ll work.
“I think he’ll get convicted, and we’ll get the death penalty,” Aronberg said.
