(NewsNation) — A New York detective successfully performed a lifesaving procedure on a choking infant after he observed a motorist in distress, and part of it was caught on camera.

A driver stuck in traffic on Wednesday saw police activity on the curb and whipped out a phone, expecting to see something bad happening, but instead saw a quick-thinking cop saving an 8-month-old baby who was choking.

“Something didn’t look right, and something told me that I should go take a look at that vehicle. (The driver) immediately rolled down his window and said, ‘My baby’s choking,’” said Detective Michael Greaney on NewsNation’s “Banfield.”

Greaney, a 17-yearlong cop, moved quickly to unbuckle the baby from her car seat, turned her over and started performing the Heimlich maneuver.

“The dad just seemed very relieved. … I put the baby back in the car seat, told him to watch a YouTube video on how to perform the (Heimlich) maneuver,” Greaney said. “God forbid, it ever happens again while she’s this small or to any other child. So I did that and I was on my way.”

It turns out a pediatrician was also stuck in the same traffic and witnessed the whole rescue. After checking the baby out, the little girl was pronounced good as new.
