NewsNation's Brooke Shafer

Brooke Shafer serves as a national correspondent for NewsNation based in Miami, Florida. She joined the network in May 2022.

During her tenure at the network, Ms. Shafer has reported on several major stories across Florida and the southeast United States. Most recently, she was on-the-ground during the trial of Ryan Routh, the man accused of attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at his West Palm Beach country club in 2024. In 2025, she exclusively toured a Boeing Company manufacturing facility in North Charleston, South Carolina the same day Qatar Airways finalized a multibillion-dollar deal with Boeing to purchase over 200 widebody aircraft. Additionally, she has provided continuous coverage of the controversial immigration detention center known as “Alligator Alcatraz” in the Florida Everglades and extensively covered the 2024 presidential election.

Before joining NewsNation, Ms. Shafer was a reporter and anchor for CBS News Miami, where she covered major breaking news. She was one of the first reporters on the scene following the collapse of the Surfside condominiums in 2021. Her coverage of the deadly collapse earned her an Emmy nomination and was featured in a CBS News special report and on the BBC radio network. Prior to CBS News Miami, she served as an anchor and reporter for both WCJB-TV in Gainesville and WINK-TV in Fort Meyers, Florida. She has traveled across Florida covering the state’s top stories, including the 2017 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, the arrest of Roger Stone, and several hurricanes.

Ms. Shafer is a graduate of Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in media/communication studies and creative writing.
